Not Just Another Tuesday in the Cul-de-sac

The afternoon sun was warm, and the neighborhood was alive with activity. Kids were riding their scooters up and down the street, racing between driveways, their laughter echoing through the cul-de-sac. Neighbors were out watering their lawns and waving to one another as cars slowly rolled by.

An older neighbor, Mr. Henderson, was out on his front lawn enjoying the day, watching the kids ride by.

Without warning, he suddenly collapsed onto the grass.

One of the parents walking nearby saw it happen and immediately sprinted over. Mr. Henderson was unresponsive and breathing abnormally. Without hesitation, the parent yelled for another neighbor to dial 911 and grab the nearest AED from the neighborhood clubhouse while they immediately started high-quality chest compressions.

Push, push, push.

Keeping a simple, steady rhythm to the beat of “Stayin’ Alive,” they maintained circulation until the paramedics arrived on scene. The paramedics were able to restore a normal heart rhythm quickly because bystander CPR was started within seconds of the collapse.

You Are the First Responder

The ambulance usually takes several minutes to arrive, minutes that matter most. In those early moments, you are the primary link in the chain of survival. CPR isn’t about being perfect, it’s about taking action. Even simple compression only CPR can double or triple someone’s chances of survival.
